Xian, the Terracotta warriors
Our first overnight hard sleeper (train) from Beijing saw us deposited in Xi'an (Previously the capital of china) & althought I'd like to say it was a pleasure getting there, it wasn't! But ignoring the lack of sleep, crippling back pain ( the bed's aren't designed for 6ft+ Westeners) & the gauntlet of the pick pocketers around the station, we crashed out in the hotel for a few hours to recover before heading off to see the Terracotta Warriors a short distance away. For those that didn't know these '8th wonders of the world' were only recently (1974) discovered by a farmer (who still sits in the tourist area signing books!!) whilst digging a well. And although their exact history alludes me currently, I do recall they were built to honour Emporor Qin Shi Huangdi in around (210BC) & took 40 years to build. Each one on them is different if you look closely & rather like the 'Great Wall' there are few words to describe them other than 'awsome.'
