Moon Hill & Longhii rice terraces

Another day, another destination, but thankfully this time a countryside retreat called 'the outside inn'. Located a mere 5km East of Yangshou, this pleasant little Dutch run haven became our pseudo home for a few days as we explored the surrounding area & looked more carefully into the beautiful limestone formations that we now know as 'karst's'. Whilst its true to say that the abundant mozzies and humid conditions at the 'outside inn' were starting to put a dampner on things (pun intended). After the second poor nights sleep, we were still delighted to be out of the city, away from the crowds and enjoying the freedom of our own two feet and wheels! So after a gentle cycle thru the luscious valleys and a quick refreshment at 'moon hill' base camp - we set off for the summit for what was 'promised' to be a excellent view:- From the pictures attached you can see we were not disappointed!

Some travellers say that 'you get bored of stunning views after a while!' & whilst I'm trying hard to adopt a Zen-like chilled-out nature to my character during this trip, I'd still be happy enough to completely disagree with them on that statement as "you DON'T get bored of stunning views! You just can't remember them all" as its one after another, after another, after another in China! But whatever your outlook on the scenery or travelling, M and I both agree it beats working for a living! Another train ride and yet ANOTHER beautiful view! This time however, the rice fields of Longhii and rather like the growth rings of a fallen tree, these amazing terraced fields hug the hillside in a manner that really needs to be experienced to be believed! Quite simply they and the sweet pine smell of our wooden guest house left us speechless!
